Impact on Learning
Do the facilities in which our students learn really matter?
The answer to that question is YES!
The quality of our facilities can have a major impact on the education our students receive, on the
institution’s ability to recruit and retain students and a quality staff, and on their bottom line. While
we may agree that facilities DO impact learning, most institutions can’t afford to replace an entire
building in order to bring it up to date.
The Impact on Learning program was developed, not to focus on whole building
design, but instead to focus on specific solutions that can impact the educational
environment, like rethinking the interior landscape and the role of furniture
as a mobile tactical toolkit; cost-effective ways to provide technological access
to students; maximizing daylight and outdoor views while effectively controlling
heat gain and glare; improving indoor air quality and creating a safer, healthier
environment; and safeguarding the investments we have already made.
